Apparently disturbed woman causes panic at Manhattan subway station
Diane Williams reports on the woman who created a subway scare in Manhattan.

UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) -- The screams of an apparent emotionally disturbed woman caused a subway scare in Manhattan Wednesday morning that sent straphangers scrambling for safety.

It happened at the 81st Street Station on the Upper West Side just before 9 a.m.

Calls came in to 911 reporting attacks and a possible stabbing, but responding officers deemed them unfounded. Still, the incident led to a panic.

"All of the sudden, police were running through the gate and said somebody got stabbed, that was the report they got," the MTA booth attendant said. "But when they went there, the fire department and all those, nothing (was) found."

There were no reports of injuries, and the woman was taken to the hospital for a mental health exam. She is not under arrest, and charges are not expected.
