Car collides with NJ Transit bus in Newark; 13 hurt

NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- A car collided with a NJ Transit bus in Newark Monday morning, leaving 13 people injured.

The bus was heading eastbound on West Market Street when the car, a silver 1996 Honda Accord, turned in front of it from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at about 4:30 a.m., police said.

Two people in the car and 11 passengers on the bus were transported to University Hospital. No serious injuries were reported.

NJ Transit said the bus, with 29 people on board, was the Route 34 line from Montclair to Newark's Penn Station.

Damaged was sustained to the front driver's sides of both vehicles.

Police say the Honda's driver, a 19-year-old Orange man, has been issued summonses for careless driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, failure to exhibit license, failure to exhibit registration and for being an unlicensed driver.

The vehicle's owner was also written a summons for allowing the vehicle to be operated by an unlicensed driver.
