Bronx construction worker fatally crushed by crate

BRONX, N.Y. (WABC) -- A construction worker was killed when a crate fell on him while he was unloading a truck Tuesday morning.

The victim, Nick Cavataio, 62, a contractor from Stroudsburg, Pa., was crushed just after 8 a.m. on the Throgs Neck Expressway service road.

A battery weighing about 2,700 pounds crushed the Cavataio's head when it fell from a truck as the worker was unloading it. It was supposed to provide a backup power supply to the Throgs Neck Administration building.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident is under investigation.
