3-alarm fire forces dozens out of their homes in Mount Vernon

MOUNT VERNON, New York (WABC) -- Flames erupted inside a home in Westchester County Saturday night and quickly spread to two nearby homes.

The 3-alarm fire that started at about 11:30 p.m. forced dozens of people out of the three homes on South Terrace Avenue.

Two of the homes were destroyed and the other was damaged in the blaze that took several hours to get under control.

32 adults and 11 children were displaced by the fire.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials are calling it suspicious.

The American Red Cross is helping the families affected by the blaze.
