Driver stabbed in apparent road rage incident on Upper East Side

UPPER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) -- Police are investigating what appears to be a road rage incident that took a violent turn in Manhattan.

According to the New York City Police Department, a man got out of his silver Toyota Camry as another got out of his car on East 61st Street around 11:20 Saturday night.

Police said the suspect, who was in the Camry, stabbed the victim 11 times. The suspect then got back into his car and fled north on First Avenue.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said the victim went up to the suspect's vehicle and attempted to pull him out, following "an argument over traffic" on the Queensboro Bridge.

The injured driver tried to drive himself to the hospital but crashed into a parked Mercedes Benz SUV near East 76 Street and Madison Avenue.

He was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital where he is critical in stable.

Police are searching for the man in the Camry, which has Rhode Island license plates.
