EAST NEW YORK (WABC) -- A family in Brooklyn is desperately searching for a missing teenager. 16-year-old Ryan Matthews has not been seen since August 28th.

Matthews moved to the area from Guyana only a year ago. His family has been peppering the neighborhood with flyers hoping to track him down.

Investigators are hoping to learn more about the situation, this as the teen's mother tells Eyewitness News that he went out for a run, something that he does quite often. This time, he did not come back home.

Volunteers put up flyers picturing Matthews - his family members say they have been searching for the teen since Friday, August 28th, when he left his home in East New York around 4 p.m. He was wearing Nike sneakers and was heading for a run at Highland Park a mile away.

There is no indication of where Matthews went and who he could be with. Investigators say he was carrying a wallet and a backpack. The teen is described as an introvert.

Williams' family say they have reached out to other family members and friends, but so far no one has heard from him.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
