Tim Fleischer reports that the bicyclist was critically injured.

A man was punched in the face and critically injured while riding his bicycle in Brooklyn.

The assault victim, a 38-year-old father of two, was in surgery at Kings County Hospital Friday evening.

"I visited him but he doesn't move. He doesn't do anything," said Esther Diaz, the victim's wife.

Fighting back her tears, Diaz finds her husband Domingo Diego Tapia in a coma and she now facing uncertainty.

"I'm just waiting and waiting. And I feel bad that I'm not with him or talk to him," Diaz said.

Domingo suffered a severe head injury and is in critical condition.

"It's very difficult. I'm not sure what we are going to do. Today, right now, he's in surgery and I'm not sure what I'm going to do," Diaz said.

On Thursday, June 8th, Domingo was riding his bike home from work at 1:30 a.m. in Prospect Lefferts Gardens when he was viciously assault by a man who punched him in the face.

He tumbled from his bike, striking his head on the pavement.

"It's a vicious assault. Clearly came out of nowhere. Just punched this man. We don't know the motive right now. We can't figure it out because we don't have enough information," said Robert Boyce, NYPD Chief of Detectives.

The suspect is said to be in his mid-20s with an athletic build and beard. He was wearing a distinctive shirt with the letter "G" on the front.

"1:30 a.m. on Fulton Street, a very well-traveled street, probably not so much at that hour of the night, but we will go forward from there," Boyce said.

Diaz has not told her 5 and 7-year-old sons about their fathers' serious injuries.

She says she is hoping the suspect surrenders.

"Whoever did this, turn yourself in and to pay on what you did. My kids need his father. It will be Father's Day and their father isn't home," Diaz said.

She is trying to remain strong her children and hoping the Domingo will somehow recover.
