Man who crashed into Roosevelt gas station accused of abducting ex

ROOSEVELT, N.Y. (WABC) -- A truck driver who crashed into gas pumps at a station on Long Island is accused of first abducting an ex-girlfriend.

The driver, Tyler Gunter, 23 of Hempstead, lost control and ran into the gas station on Nassau Road just before 4 a.m. in Roosevelt. Gunter was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

According to Nassau County the Police Department, on Tuesday at 3 a.m., the driver had fought earlier with a former girlfriend and then abducted her. He brought her top his home, but she escaped and made it back home, then called police.

While officers were talking with her, Tyler Gunter crashed the SUV into the gas station on Nassau Road.

He suffered major head trauma and is in serious condition. Gunter will be arraigned in his hospital bed on charges of unlawful imprisonment. The victim was uninjured.

A small gas pump fire was extinguished.
