LINDENHURST, Long Island (WABC) -- A passerby on a sailboat found a body in Great South Bay Monday morning, and Suffolk County police have confirmed it is a boater who went missing over the weekend.

Andrew Weis, of Gilgo Beach, was reported missing Saturday night when he didn't show up at the Anchorage Yacht Club in Lindenhurst.

The Coast Guard says the body was found at 10 a.m. in the water off Tanner Park in Copiague. Police recovered the body after the Coast Guard couldn't get to the scene because it was so shallow.

Weis' boat was found washed up in the Great South Bay off Venetian Shores Park Sunday morning. It is reportedly very close to the area where the body was found.

Suffolk police said there is evidence Weis' boat was involved in some type of accident.

Detectives from the Major Case Unit are continuing the investigation and are asking anyone with information to call 631-852-6555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
