Linden sergeant accused of dealing marijuana

LINDEN, New Jersey (WABC) -- A police officer in New Jersey is accused of being on the wrong side of the law.

The sergeant is charged with dealing marijuana, and his father is a captain in the same police department in Linden.

According to a source, Sgt. William Turbett, III is currently suspended from the force due to another case involving Internal Affairs.

But now the 30-year-old officer faces drug possession and distribution charges.

According to neighbors there was police activity Wednesday night at the South Amboy home of the police sergeant and multiple agencies have been involved in the investigation.

Turbett is accused of trying to sell marijuana. No one was home when Eyewitness News stopped by earlier, but the house was covered in Christmas decorations.

This latest drama involving a Linden cop comes nearly 14 months after the case involving Officer Pedro Abad who was behind the wheel of his car driving the wrong way on the Staten Island Expressway when he slammed head on into a tractor trailer.

He allegedly spent the night out drinking with friends. His blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit.

The horrific crash left two people dead, including another Linden police officer. Another cop was critically injured.

Now the department waits to see how this latest case involving Sgt. Turbett will be resolved.

The possession and distribution charge is considered a 4th degree crime.
