HARLEM, Manhattan (WABC) -- Police are investigating yet another slashing on the New York City subway.

A man was cut on the hand Sunday night during an attempted robbery on a C train in Harlem.

It was the seventh slashing so far this year, but unlike some of the others, it does not appear to have been a random attack.

The victim was cut during a robbery at about 8:30 p.m. The man was riding a northbound C train and as the train approached the suspect approached holding a knife and demanded his cell phone.

When the victim said no and grabbed the knife from the suspect's hand, he was cut and the suspect ran away.

The victim was treated for minor injuries.

Another attack happened just after 5 a.m. Sunday inside the 110th Street Station in Harlem. Police say a man was slashed in the face after getting into an argument with a woman on the 2 train platform.

The victim was taken to St. Luke's Hospital. He was not seriously hurt. So far there have been no arrests, and the investigation is ongoing.

The NYPD says it is increasing patrols on subways in response to several recent slashing attacks.

Sunday's attack marks the sixth slashing in the subway system in recent months.

Authorities are looking for connections - or possible copycats - among the series of slashings that started in October with the apparently random attack on a guest in a Chelsea hotel.
