Store awning collapses in the Bronx taking brick parapet with it

No one was injured when the front awning of an auto body shop suddenly collapsed in the Mount Eden section of the Bronx Monday.

Just after 12:45 p.m., the awning fell at 1679 Jerome Ave., along with the brick section of the parapet wall creating a pile of rubble on the sidewalk.

The New York Department of Buildings has issued a full vacate order for 1679 and 1681 Jerome Ave. 1683 Jerome Ave. has since been reoccupied. Both 1681 and 1683 are businesses, while 1679 is a vacant one-story commercial building.

There were no injuries reported and it is unclear what caused the collapse. A failure to maintain violation was issued to owners of 1681 Jerome.
