NEW YORK (WABC) -- An NYPD rescue operation was caught on camera, as a police helicopter swooped in to help a man with a medical emergency on a cargo ship more than 20 miles off the coast of Brooklyn.

At about 3:30 Sunday afternoon, police received a call from the Coast Guard seeking assistance for a medical evacuation of the 22-year-old man on a ship southeast of Floyd Bennett Field.

Police officers assigned to the NYPD Aviation Unit responded to the vessel and lowered an NYPD medic to the deck to reach the victim.

Upon being hoisted down the officer met the victim, gave him aid, and prepared him to be hoisted into the waiting NYPD helicopter.

After being loaded into the helicopter, the victim was taken to Staten Island University Medical Center for chest pains, abdominal pain, and a severe headache.
