UPPER WEST SIDE (WABC) -- Surveillance video shows the moments leading up to a shooting inside an Upper West Side diner that left one man hospitalized Thursday.

The shooting happened at about 4 a.m. inside the City Diner at Broadway and West 90th Street.

Police say that a man and woman were sitting in a booth having a late-night snack when the suspect came in and ordered a meal. He then went over and exchanged some words with the couple and walked away to pay for his food.

Moments later, the suspect whipped out a gun and shot 24-year-old Shakiem Frazier before fleeing southbound down Broadway.

The video is clear, showing the gunman paying for his food and then walking over to the victim's booth before running out of the restaurant.

The 24-year-old victim brought himself to the hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries after being grazed in the ear by the bullet.

He is listed in stable condition.

Frazier told police that when the suspect entered the diner, he reportedly turned to Fraizer and asked "Do I know you from somewhere?" But Fraizer shook his head in confusion. The gunman returned after ordering and added, "I know you from Family Academy Grade School," then opened fire.

Crime scene investigators collected shell casings and interviewed those inside the diner.

Detectives are also looking for more surveillance video from businesses in the area to determine whether the gunman can be seen fleeing the scene.

It is currently unclear if the victim knew the suspect, and authorities presently have not identified any possible motive.
