FORT GREENE, Brooklyn (WABC) -- The family of a woman struck and killed on the sidewalk in Brooklyn is demanding justice for victims of crashes.
The family held a vigil Tuesday night in Fort Greene where Victoria Nicodemus was killed earlier this month.
A man driving with a suspended license jumped the curb after swerving to avoid a bus.
He was charged with two misdemeanors.
"An example has to be made at some point, when a driver decides to not hit a bus but hit a person," said Elsa Nicodemus, the victim's mother.
The victim's mother called on state lawmakers to help make Brooklyn's streets safer.
