MASTIC BEACH, Long Island -- A pair of Long Island students were treated to a thrilling holiday surprise Wednesday when their uncle, home on leave from the Navy, paid them a visit at school.
Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary School second grader Maddy Sicignano and her brother J.J., a first grader, got to see their uncle, Petty Officer Timothy Sicignano, an Aviation Ordnanceman in the U.S. Navy.
Sicignano is home on leave for Christmas after a seven-month deployment to the Middle East.
He visited Mrs. Diane McCarthy's second-grade class in Mastic Beach for the surprise while Maddy was reading aloud.
Mrs. McCarthy's son, Brian Kelley, is also a member of the U.S. Navy serving overseas.
