Widow of suspect in NYPD sergeant's fatal shooting comments on incident

SOUNDVIEW, Bronx (WABC) -- The widow of the man who killed an NYPD sergeant last week posted about the tragic incident on her Facebook page.

The death of NYPD Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo could have been "prevented time and time again." That's a direct quote from the estranged wife of accused cop killer Manuel Rosales.

In a lengthy Facebook post, Tia Carmela Rosales wrote,

"First I would like to say that I am just so sorry for that Sergeant and his family. So sick to my stomach... As hurt and distraught and grief stricken as I am by this end, I can't stop also thinking of that officer and his wife and children..."

Rosales had an order of protection against her husband. She says she was hiding out from him in the Bronx when he held her and family members against their will. The 35-year-old subsequently shot two members of the NYPD Friday afternoon.

"If anyone is truly to blame for this tragedy, I blame Suffolk County District court and the judge who let him walk out of there knowing he was in mental distress, knowing he needed immediate psychiatric care," Rosales continued in her post.

"Instead of taking proper measure, a gross negligence occurred and he was released. I attempted two separate phone calls to Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Moran last week trying to understand what was happening with this case. I never received a call back..."

The Suffolk County District Office confirms it received two calls from Rosales about her concerns for her family on October 28th. In a written statement it says in part "Both calls were promptly returned and messages left to call back."
