Woman pleads not guilty in husband's shooting
An NYPD psychologist accused of trying to kill husband pleaded not guilty Thursday

YONKERS, N.Y. (WABC) -- An NYPD psychologist entered a not guilty plea on an attempted murder charge in the shooting her husband.

Police said Kenneth Dearden was found inside his Pondfield home in Yonkers with a gunshot wound to his neck on Nov. 13. The wealthy developer survived, but investigators said evidence and interviews pointed to his wife, 46-year-old Dr. Emily Dearden, as the shooter.

Emily Dearden also had suffered a head injury. She is due back in court July 30. Bail was continued at $150,000 bond.

She was arraigned on a seven-count indictment including one count of attempted murder in the second degree and assault in the first degree.

A submitted statement to police from Emily Dearden filed with Yonkers detectives contends that it was a home invasion. She said she was hit on the side of the head, then heard her husband moaning.

Dearden admitted to an affair with a man in Texas, and said her husband was having an affair as well. There was an order of protection against Emily Dearden to stay away from her husband and her children. Kenneth Dearden was not in court.

Police at the time released few details. They were investigating the possibility that the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute.

Ken Dearden, the president of the Yonkers Downtown Waterfront Business Improvement District and an active developer in the area, filed a lawsuit a week ago reportedly accusing his wife of a "sadistic attack" to get out of their marriage.

Emily Dearden is charged with second-degree attempted murder.

She was arraigned in Yonkers Criminal Court and ordered held on $150,000 bail.

"With every fiber of her body and every resource she has, she is going to be fighting these baseless charges," defense attorney Paul Bergman said.

This investigation is active and ongoing, and no further information will be released at this time.
