A Long Island man is charged with abandoning an injured dog.

HOLTSVILLE, Long Island (WABC) -- Authorities on Long Island arrested a man who they say abandoned an injured dog.

The Suffolk County SPCA says 20-year-old Caciem Kruer dumped a 2-year-old pit bull mix named Creed out of a car on a street corner in Holtsville last week.

An eyewitness called police.

The dog was covered in dried blood and had an untreated laceration on its paw.

Kruer, of Brentwood, is charged with abandonment and cruelty to animals for lack of veterinary care, both misdemeanor charges.

Each charge is punishable by imprisonment for not more than one year, or by a fine of not more than $1,000, or by both.
