Demonstrators protest Jewish ritual involving chickens in Brooklyn

CROWN HEIGHTS (WABC) -- There was a raucous protest over poultry Monday night in Brooklyn.

Demonstrators were calling for an end to the slaughter of thousands of chickens during a Jewish ritual.

Police in Crown Heights tried to separate demonstrators and the orthodox Jews taking part in the ritual known as Kaporos.

Protesters say it's inhumane to swing and slaughter chickens during the rituals staged in the two days before Yom Kippur.

Yom Kippur starts Tuesday at sundown.
