CORONA (WABC) -- Some quick-thinking firemen are being credited with saving the life of a puppy who was badly hurt in a Queens accident.

5-month-old Pomeranian "Charlie" was riding with his owner on her bicycle when they were hit by a sanitation truck on Thursday in Corona.

Firefighters on their way to another call were flagged down to help.

The dog's owner was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The firefighters found Charlie lying on the road bleeding, and rushed him to a veterinarian who determined he has three fractures.
