Up Close: Former NY Governor David Paterson
Diana Williams talks with former New York Governor David Paterson about the current session in the New York State legislature.

NEW YORK (WABC) -- This week the New York State legislature will end its current session for 2015.

But much still remains in limbo, from the 421a tax abatement to rent control.

Why is the state legislature unable to resolve big issues facing the city and the state? Is it party politics or is there more?

Our first guest this week has a lot of experience in Albany. He was the 55th governor of New York, and before becoming governor, he spent more than two decades in the State Senate.

David Paterson joins us.

Also this week: New York City has tackled trans fats and sugary sodas. Now it's salt.

The city wants a warning label on restaurant menus consisting of a tiny salt shaker, when the salt content of a meal is greater than the minimum required daily intake.

And as you can imagine, restaurants aren't happy with the idea.

Joining us New York City's Public Health Commissioner, Dr. Bassett.

Commissioner Bassett also discusses the rise in the city's smoking rate again, after years of decline. The city has a new series of campaign ads aimed at smoking.
