DeSean Jackson remains limited but plans to play Sunday

ASHBURN, Va., -- Washington Redskins receiver DeSean Jackson said he's feeling better, but he was still limited in practice because of a knee and ankle issue. However, Jackson said he's planning on playing Sunday vs. the New York Giants.

Jackson injured his left knee vs. the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday and did not practice Wednesday. He went through warm-up and individual drills Thursday before sitting out. He did not run full speed, but he did show an ability to plant and cut on routes.

"Everything will be good by the time we get out there Sunday," Jackson said.

With the Redskins at 0-2 and playing at the first place New York Giants, they'll need Jackson to pull the upset. Jackson, who wore a wrap on his left knee, said his injury situation is "not a big deal" and called it more of a sprain and a little bruise. He said sitting out Wednesday helped him recover.

"Being in this league nine years, you have time to get out there and practice when you can," said Jackson, who has caught nine passes for 142 yards in two games. "I'm proven in this league so [coach Jay Gruden] knows I'll be ready. I'm in the game plan and I know everything I need to do... I'll work that soreness out so I'll be ready to go."

Gruden said he's not yet ready to declare Jackson in for Sunday's game. There's more he wants to see from him.

"He had a better day today," Gruden said. "I didn't see him running full blazing speed, but he's running, which is a good sign. With a sprinter like that, he needs to be full go. Tomorrow we'll give him a few shots to run deep and fast and see how he feels and we'll go from there."

Jackson certainly wants to play, if only to prove something to Giants defensive back Janoris Jenkins, who told New York reporters that, "It's different when you can go against a guy that's got speed and quickness and that can run routes. But with DeSean, I think he's just kind of fast and a deep guy."

To which Jackson replied, "Who? Who is that? I won't entertain that stuff. Hopefully he's still talking that when game time comes. Next question."
