SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah Jazz have signed free agent center Jeff Withey to a multi-year contract. The team announced the deal Monday afternoon. Details of the contract were unavailable, per team policy.
The 7-foot, 222-pounder was a second-round pick by the Trail Blazers in 2013 and played two seasons with New Orleans after a trade that sent Robin Lopez to Portland. Withey averaged 3.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 0.7 blocks in 95 games over two seasons. He was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year at Kanas in 2012 and 2013.
Withey adds frontcourt depth behind starters Rudy Gobert and Derrick Favors along with backups Trevor Booker, Trey Lyles, Tibor Pleiss, Jack Cooley and Grant Jerrett.
The Jazz finished the season 38-44 and had the sixth-best win percentage (.655) after the All-Star break.
