EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Everything was going fine for the New York Giants in their preseason opener, until their top two draft picks left with injuries.
First-round selection Eli Apple had the outside of his knee checked in the second quarter.
Second-round pick Sterling Shepard left with a groin injury, also in the second quarter.
The Giants have high hopes for Apple and Shepard this season. Both were playing with the first team Friday night.
Shepard flashed his potential earlier in the game, when he made a diving, 24-yard grab on the opening drive.
