Jets coach Todd Bowles gets testy over questions about loss to Bengals

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- New York Jets coach Todd Bowles pulled a Bill Belichick on Monday, basically telling reporters, "I'm on to Buffalo."

The mild-mannered coach got testy at the top of his news conference, declining to answer questions about Sunday's 23-22 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Bowles, unusually curt, said he couldn't waste time rehashing the game because of the quick turnaround before facing the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night.

"I told you, we've moved on to Buffalo," said Bowles, responding to a question about Darrelle Revis' subpar performance in the opener. "I don't have time to go over this. We went over it in the coaching staff meeting. We went over every player.

"I don't have time to talk about it now," he continued. "I've moved on, they've moved on."

Bowles' news conference was scheduled for 15 minutes, meaning he was slated to answer questions for an allotted time, regardless of the subject matter. When that was mentioned to him, he threatened to cut short the session.

"I'm not going to talk about it," he said sternly. "Unless you have Buffalo questions, I ain't gonna be here for long."

Later, Bowles explained that he told the players he wanted them to move past the Cincinnati game, looking ahead. He said he was doing the same. "I'm keeping to my word," he said. "I have a short week and I have a lot to do. I'm not trying to hurt nobody's feelings."

Perhaps there's an early sense of pressure at One Jets Drive. The Jets began the season with high expectations, and now they face a tough road game, hoping to avoid the dreaded 0-2 start.

They're also on the road in Week 3 -- at the Kansas City Chiefs -- as part of a brutal September/October schedule. The Jets face five 2015 playoff teams in their first six games.

The non-playoff team is the Bills, who have owned the Jets in recent years. The Jets have dropped five straight in the AFC East rivalry by a combined score of 162-74. That included a season-ending loss last January, costing the Jets a playoff spot.

Brandon Marshall tried to downplay the significant of the game.

"I don't know why everyone is talking about a sense of urgency," the wide receiver said. "It's almost like the talk is, our backs are against the wall. It's Week 2. We lost by one point. We didn't get the job done. We believe in our team. We believe we're a good team. Now we just have to go out there and prove it."

Fellow receiver Eric Decker added, "For what we want to accomplish this season, every game is a 'win' type of game."

Injury-wise, the Jets are relatively healthy, as every starter is expected to play. Defensive end Sheldon Richardson has returned to the team after a one-game suspension for violating the league's personal-conduct policy.
