Jets fire pro personnel director Brendan Prophett, five college scouts

Two days after completing a widely acclaimed draft, New York Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan continued to overhaul the organization Monday by firing a longtime personnel director and five college scouts.

Brendan Prophett was the highest-ranking official to lose his job. He served as the director of pro personnel for nine years and had been with the organization since 2000.

College scouts Rick Courtright, David Hinson, Cole Hufnagel, Chris Prescott and Seth Turner also were relieved of their duties. Courtright, Hinson, Prescott and Turner were hired over the last two years by the previous general manager, John Idzik. Hufnagel was hired in 2006 by Idzik's predecessor, Mike Tannenbaum.

"I appreciate their contributions to the organization and wish them the best in the future," Maccagnan said in a statement.

Maccagnan started reshaping the front office soon after he was hired in January, firing longtime personnel executive Terry Bradway and director of college scouting Jeff Bauer. He replaced them with Brian Heimerdinger and Rex Hogan, respectively.

At the time, Maccagnan said he'd continue to evaluate the staff, prompting many in the organization to believe that post-draft changes were inevitable.

The highest-ranking holdovers from the Idzik regime are Rod Graves and Jackie Davidson, who head the football administration department.
