Jaguars tight end Julius Thomas is considering having surgery on his finger, a procedure that would sideline the two-time Pro Bowler for at least four weeks.

Jaguars general manager David Caldwell confirmed Monday that Thomas, the team's top free agent acquisition this past offseason, will receive a second medical opinion Tuesday before deciding whether to undergo the surgery.

A source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that Thomas is expected to undergo the surgery.

Thomas was injured in Jacksonville's preseason opener earlier this month, but the Jaguars expected him to be ready for their regular-season opener.

ESPN Jaguars reporter Mike DiRocco contributed to this report.
