Former U.S. women's soccer player Lauren Holiday had surgery Thursday to remove a benign tumor from the right side of her brain, according to multiple reports.

Holiday, a member of the Americans' 2015 World Cup championship team, gave birth to a healthy girl late last month.

Her husband, New Orleans Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday, has been away from the team during training camp and the preseason as Lauren had their daughter and prepared for surgery. He is expected to miss an indefinite number of regular-season games as a result.

The child's due date had been mid-October, but the Holidays planned to induce labor sooner to expedite Lauren's surgery.

The couple has lived in the Raleigh, North Carolina, area near the Duke University medical specialists who handled the surgery. Holiday's doctors have said they believe she should return to full health.
