EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New York Giants running backShane Vereen's return lasted less than a half as he left Sunday's 10-7 win over the Dallas Cowboys in the second quarter with a concussion.

Vereen was activated off injured reserve on Saturday. He had missed the previous nine games after tearing his left triceps.

The Giants were hoping Vereen could be a boost to their struggling offense with his unique skill set. He was being used as a passing-down back prior to the injury.

Vereen was injured after catching a pass with just over 11 minutes remaining in the second quarter. He immediately went to the sideline and tossed his helmet. The medical staff took him directly to the locker room.

Vereen was an integral part of the offense last year when he caught a career-high 59 passes for 495 yards.
