Kelly Slater, the 11-time world surfing champion, announced that he will compete on the professional tour for one more year.

"So next year I'm gonna get my s--- (and my body) together for real and see if I can make a last run at a title," Slater wrote in an Instagram post.

The 44-year-old Florida native holds the record for most World Surf League championships.

He was the youngest to win the title at age 20, as well as the oldest when he won his most recent crown at 39.

"I'm going to take these next four months, get my body together, and get my motivation and ... see if I can really put together a focused year," Slater told World Surf League on Thursday at the MEO Rip Curl tournament in Portugal.

Slater made his first competitive appearance in 1990.
