NEW YORK (WABC) -- It's marathon weekend in New York City, and the fun began with the TCS New York City Marathon Opening Ceremony on Friday night.
The ceremony featured the Parade of Nations with 1,300 delegates representing more than 102 nations. Outside of the United States, the most represented nations include France, Italy, Germany, United Kingdom and The Netherlands.
Next, join us on Saturday, November 5 for our live special, "Countdown to the Starting Line" hosted by Eyewitness News Anchors Liz Cho and David Novarro. This half-hour special on the eve of the TCS New York City Marathon captures all of the excitement of race participants and a city ready to host one of the greatest spectacles in all of sport.
The setting is the TSC New York City Marathon Pavilion just steps from the Finish Line in Central Park. Thousands of runners from all over the world come to share the anticipation of the big race, as well as Marathon week activities like the colorful Parade of Nations in Central Park.
We'll be broadcasting live from the Marathon Eve Dinner held near the Finish Line in Central Park. Joining Liz and David will be meteorologist Amy Freeze with the all-important race day forecast. We'll hear about the push to make the pasta party a "green" event, and thanks to the NY Apple Growers, we'll share a recipe for a delicious apple dessert.
Eyewitness News Sports Anchors Ryan Field and Laura Behnke tell us which top runners to keep an eye on, and share the story of a Manhattan man whose life changed when he began running to honor his wife's memory. And we'll hear from a NewYork-Presbyterian Columbia University Medical Center Sports Medicine specialist about the impact this type of activity has on your body.
Then on race day, Sunday, November 6, join Ryan, Laura, and the Eyewitness News team for pre-race coverage starting at 7 a.m., followed by the main event with ESPN's Hannah Storm and John Anderson!
