The New York Yankees traded pitcher Ivan Nova to the Pittsburgh Pirates just ahead of the trade deadline Monday according to FanRag sports.
It was unclear what compensation the Yankees received in return from the Pirates at the time of the deal.
Nova, 29, was hit hard in his last start for the Yankees on Friday night giving up five runs and six hits over 4 1/3 innings of work against the last-place Tampa Bay Rays in a 5-1 loss. The setback dropped his record to 7-6 on the season while raising his ERA to 4.90.
Nova's move was not the only big move made by the Yankees ahead of the deadline. Designated hitter Carlos Beltran was shipped to the Texas Rangers in return for prospects earlier in the day while reliever Andrew Miller was sent to the Cleveland Indians on Sunday and closer Aroldis Chapman was dealt to the Chicago Cubs last Monday.
