NEW YORK -- Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia will have surgery on his troublesome right knee.

"It's not something that's of concern or considered serious," New York general manager Brian Cashman said Wednesday, describing the procedure as a "cleanup."

Cashman said team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad will operate within the next week.

Sabathia, a 36-year-old left-hander, pitched with a brace on the knee this year. He went 9-12 with a 3.91 ERA, his lowest ERA since 2012.

Also, right-hander Anthony Swarzak elected free agency instead of accepting an outright assignment.

And the Los Angeles Angels under GM Billy Eppler, Cashman's former assistant, claimed relievers Blake Parker and Kirby Yates off waivers from the Yankees. In corresponding moves, A.J. Achter and Nick Buss have been designated for assignment.
