Girl killed and boy injured in freak SUV accident in New Rochelle
Carolina Leid reports from New Rochelle.

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (WABC) -- A 10-year-old girl was killed and a 12-year-old boy was seriously injured when the kids fell out of the SUV they were riding in, and then that same SUV rolled over them.

How did the car both kids were riding in suddenly run them over?

Neighbors and witnesses say the two kids and their mothers were leaving their apartment building at 240 Drake Avenue all smiles ready for fun.

Somehow, someway the 12-year-old boy and 10-year-old girl fell out of a Ford Expedition and were run over by the SUV.

"It was parked the car. She tried to put parking, but I guess it was not in the right gear. So then she started rolling back, don't know how the boy and the girl got out of the car, then they got hit by it. Girl lost a lot of blood, boy kind of like broke his arm," said Jeycof Carrion, a witness.

Colleen Revelli says the children were hit right outside her window, but strangely enough she didn't hear any crying or screaming.

"I didn't know what to do. I thought they were just playing," Revelli said.

Surrounded by dozens of evidence markers, police could only say the cause of the accident is under investigation.

Marisol Valencia says the driver often babysat her children and described her as extremely trustworthy.

"I'm in shock, very in shock. She is very responsible. She's not the kind of person, it was an accident," Valencia said. "We have to pray for her and we have to pray for the boy and the girl."

They were both rushed to the hospital where the girl later died. The 12-year-old boy suffered a broken leg. He remains at Jacobi Medical Center in serious but stable condition.

Officers are investigating the incident.
