Man critically injured in car crash on Sunrise Highway in Patchogue

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (WABC) -- Part of the Sunrise Highway was shut down for an accident investigation on Long Island on Tuesday.

Suffolk County Police say that 29-year-old Robert Hommel of Mastic was driving westbound on Sunrise Highway in Patchogue when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed.

Police say that he was speeding at the time of the accident.

It happened near the overpass for Hospital Road just before 2:30 p.m.

The 4-door sedan went through the guardrail and struck the overpass.

Hommel of the vehicle was rushed to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
