Car hits Newark light rail,  suspends some service

BELLEVILLE, New Jersey (WABC) -- Newark Light Rail service ran with 15-minute delays during the rush hour after a light rail car was hit by a car in Belleville.

The collision on South Franklin Avenue injured the driver of the vehicle just before 6:30 a.m Wednesday.

The 17 passengers on the light rail were not injured. The operator of the light rail was evaluated, but did not need hospital attention, officials said.

Service between Branch Brook Park and Grove Street was briefly suspended.

The car's driver received a summons for disregarding a traffic control signal.
