NEW YORK (WABC) -- Travel and mass transit is mostly back to normal throughout the New York area after the snowstorm battered the area Monday into Tuesday.

New York City Transit

Subway and bus service is running on a normal weekday schedule, but some subway lines are not running express. Signal problems were also causing some delays.

Throughout the city, officials are surveying bus routes from end to end to make certain that road conditions are suitable for safety. While employee are working to clear ice and snow from subway station stairs and platforms, safety remains a high priority and customers should still walk with caution.

LIRR

Most lines were operating on a normal schedule, but there was no service between Montauk and Speonk or between Greenpoint and Ronkonkoma in the morning. Commuters needing to get to Penn Station had to drive to the Ronkonkoma station and pick up the train from there. Late Wednesday afternoon, normal weekday service was finally restored on the Montauk branch, with the 4:30 p.m. train from Hunterspoint Avenue the first eastbound train to operate east of Speonk.

LIRR station waiting rooms will remain open around-the-clock through Friday afternoon, January 30, to provide shelter for customers during cold and inclement weather. Platforms and stairways will continue to be cleared and salted.
