CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A woman attempted to steal a baby inside a Hasidic Jewish group's headquarters in Brooklyn Wednesday.

Officials said a 26-year-old mother let her 18-month-old out of her eyesight for just moments at the Lubavitch World Headquarters on Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights. That's when a woman picked the baby out of the stroller and attempted to walk away.

The mother got a few feet away, possibly going to the bathroom, when she realized what was going on.

She started yelling for help and nearby witnesses stopped the woman from leaving with the baby.

Responding officers took the woman into custody. The child was not harmed.

The 27-year-old woman is being questioned at the 71st Precinct. She possibly has a mental illness.
