The 42-year-old victim was on the northbound 1,2,3 platform when she was pushed at around 8:15 a.m., striking the side of a number 1 train that had just arrived.

Surveillance video shows a woman wearing a bandana sitting on the bench and then times her push just as the train approaches.

"It looked malicious," rider Alejandro DeJesus said. "That's scary. That could happen to anybody when you least expect it."

One second and that victim would likely be dead. Thankfully, the female victim did not fall onto the tracks of the oncoming train.

She suffered serious injuries to her face and legs after her face hit the side of the train and was taken to Mt. Sinai West in stable condition.

For riders, it is another brutal reminder to be ever vigilant. Ever aware. But some say they are not surprised by any of this.

"This is like what it used to be like in the '80s," one rider said.

So far this year, there have been 20 subway pushings, compared with 17 at this time last year.

The suspect fled on foot.

She was described as a female in her 30s, wearing black sneakers, beige pants, black sweater and multi colored scarf.

Detectives are hoping clear photos of the suspect will lead to swift arrest.

This incident came just a few short hours before a man apparently shot himself in the leg inside the same subway station on Monday afternoon.
