LOWER MANHATTAN (WABC) -- A 17-year-old bicyclist was killed Wednesday morning in a collision with an SUV in Lower Manhattan.

Police say the male victim was riding an e-bike when he was struck just steps away from NYPD Headquarters at Centre Street between Chambers and Reade streets.

According to police, the teen and the 40-year-old driver of a 2008 black Chevrolet Tahoe were both traveling northbound on Centre Street when the collision occurred.

The teen was pronounced dead at the scene. The Tahoe driver said on the scene.

According to police, 13 "traditional bicyclists and e-bicyclists" have been involved in fatal collisions so far this year. That's compared to just eight victims this time last year. That number does not include Wednesday's collision.
