The Blue Angels' practice for this weekend's FourLeaf Air Show is packing Jones Beach

JONES BEACH, New York (WABC) -- Crowds packed Jones Beach on Friday as aircraft rehearsed for the upcoming FourLeaf Air Show, giving spectators an early look at the performances scheduled for the holiday weekend.

Thousands of people gathered along the shoreline to watch military and vintage aircraft take to the skies.

The annual air show, which will take place Sunday and Monday, is expected to feature demonstrations by the Blue Angels and the Golden Knights, among other flight teams. This year's event carries added significance as communities across the country begin commemorating America's upcoming 250th anniversary.

Spectators lining the beach watched a variety of aircraft perform aerial maneuvers, including loops and flyovers. Some of the planes on display date back to World War II, while newer aircraft showcased modern aviation capabilities.

Many attendees embraced the patriotic atmosphere, arriving dressed in red, white and blue and carrying American flags. Despite the hot weather, beachgoers settled under umbrellas, sought shade where available and took advantage of the ocean, with lifeguards on duty along the beach.

The celebratory mood was evident throughout the day. Among the displays spotted on the beach was a table featuring 1,776 cupcakes, a nod to the nation's founding year and the weekend's patriotic theme.

With favorable viewing conditions and strong public turnout, the practice session offered an early preview of what organizers expect will be a busy and festive air show weekend at Jones Beach.
