Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado drops out of NY's governor race

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Gov. Kathy Hochul's Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado is suspending his own campaign for governor.

In a statement, Delgado said he realized "there is simply no viable path forward," but says he still wants to work to help New Yorkers and will support Democrats "to hold the line against Trump."

Delgado launched his bid to challenge his boss, Gov. Kathy Hochul, over the summer.

He challenged her with a progressive campaign styled in the mold of Mayor Zohran Mamdani, seeking to harness the energy that propelled the mayor to office and national political stardom.

After Mamdani endorsed Hochul last week, Delgado released a statement that said Hochul "has broken a lot of promises" and hasn't committed to tax increases for the rich or other progressive policies, adding that he's the "partner for any leader who also values these critical measures."

Hochul's critics on the right include Republican candidate for governor Bruce Blakeman, a county official on Long Island.
