NEW YORK (WABC) -- Starting Tuesday, New York City will use fines to crack down on smaller residential buildings that aren't using city-sanctioned trash bins.

The rodent-resistant bins are on sale at Home Depot.

Residential buildings with one to nine units must put their trash in the containers, instead of leaving it piled in bags on the sidewalk.

Fines range between $50 and $200.
