NEW YORK (WABC) -- The competition on 'Dancing With the Stars' has come down to three.

Tuesday night ABC meteorologist Ginger Zee will take on a model and a UFC fighter in the season finale.

This season of 'Dancing With the Stars' is ending with even more drama than usual.

Before Monday night's show, it was unclear if Ginger Zee would be able to compete in the finals, but she did.

Watching Ginger Monday night, it was hard to believe she'd been injured badly enough to miss rehearsals the day before.

Her freestyle dance earned Ginger a perfect score after a regime that clearly worked.

"Just a lot of stretching, a lot of warmth, and a lot of rest, which is not what you're supposed to be doing going into a finale," she said.

Partner Val Chmerkovskiy had to rehearse with professional dancer Jenna Johnson while Ginger rested.

"I just felt really disappointed for her, and I felt sad, but then I felt: 'No, wait a second. We're gonna figure this out,'" said Chmerkovskiy.

And so they did, landing in second, just one point ahead of the first deaf contestant ever to compete on the show.

"And our contemporary dance was very personal and it wasn't easy to dance through it," said Nyle DiMarco.

He danced to 'The Sounds of Silence".

"He has brought something so special to 'Dancing With The Stars' that no one ever has before," said Nyles' partner, Peta Murgatroyd.

This went "beyond dance to become a work of art", said judge Bruno, Carrie Ann Inaba adding, "In 22 seasons that is the best dance I have ever seen. Wow!"

To win, they must still get past Ginger and Val and the leader, UFC fighting champ Paige Vanzant and her partner Mark Ballas.

Each of the couples have one last chance to impress the judges: a final dance to be scored before their scores from the two nights are combined to determine the winner of the coveted "Mirror Ball" tropy.

Tuesday night on ABC7 begins with "Fresh Off the Boat" at 8, followed by "The Real O'Neals" at 8:30.

The "Dancing With the Stars" season finale is at 9. The winner will be declared just before Eyewitness News at 11.
