New Year's Eve security in NYC's Times Square to be the most ever
Danielle Leigh has more on NYPD's security preparations for New Year's Eve in Times Square.

TIMES SQUARE, Manhattan (WABC) -- New Yorkers should expect the most security ever for this year's annual New Year's Eve celebration in Times Square.

City officials said the standard security measures will of course be in place -- sand trucks and blocker vehicles, nearby cross streets closed to traffic, truck restrictions, etc.

But after two terror attacks in NYC since Halloween, more efforts are being focused on trying to catch and prevent an attack -- even though no credible threat has been found.

Police officials discussed preliminary efforts, and plan to release more details on Thursday.

Parking garages will get increased scrutiny. In recent years, NYPD had been closing some parking garages in the area of Times Square -- and this year, they'll close more in a wider zone.

NYPD's hotel team, which has discussed security ahead of previous NYE events, will be on patrol this year.

Large truck rental locations will also be on close watch, along with anywhere a potential attacker could get a vehicle.

The truck restrictions are also expected to go into effect earlier than ever before.
