Popular dancehall artist says biggest regret not being able to help son during deadly stabbing

EAST FLATBUSH, Brooklyn (WABC) -- Michael Davey says he would run through fire to help his son, Christopher. In an exclusive Eyewitness News interview, the popular dancehall artist says his biggest regret is that he wasn't there to protect him.

"If there were guys with guns, I'd run and try and push them away from my son and I wouldn't care, they could not hurt my son if I was there, I know that," Davey said.

However, on Friday night, Davey was not on Albany Avenue with his son when police say someone fatally stabbed the 25-year-old.

"Everyday I cry and I'm not going to stop crying. Every day you remember a different moment with Christopher and a different smile, a different laugh," the father said.

Christopher was walking alone, right around the corner from his home in East Flatbush, Brooklyn. Around 5:15 p.m. he was seen inside a laundromat, dropping off some clothes. He told an employee he would be back with two more bags. He then left and made the walk home, but on the second trip he never made it back to the laundromat.

Davey says he believes his son may have crossed paths with the suspects, who he says live in the neighborhood.

"I don't know if they had an argument because they were fixing a bike on the sidewalk, and he needed to pass," he said.

Davey is a popular dancehall artist and has received an outpouring of support as his family tries to cope with his sudden, violent loss.

"Christopher was so brilliant, had so many dreams," he adds.

The father of five is holding onto the good times, like when Christopher was just two years old and shut down the family's entire TV system.

"I'd be like 'Christopher' and this little thing would come in, in diapers and clip, clip, clip and everything would come on," he said.

Detectives have recovered security footage from the area that will help the investigation. Police are looking for two men who took off in a black sedan.
