Entertainment reporter Sandy Kenyon has the details.

The creation of high definition movies and TV shows seemed like a pretty huge leap in technology, and now, some experts say we're about to take another leap.

4K television is a new technology that makes video appear brighter and sharper than ever before. The new "ultra-high definition" technology is just now reaching stores.

Lee Richman is the go-to guy for some of the biggest stars in show business, who depend on him to keep their home theaters up to date.

"What you're going to get with this TV is a phenomenal, dynamic range of colors, saturation and ultra-crisp picture," he said. "You're going to see is a substantial difference in picture quality. It will knock your socks off."

The 4K picture is so stunning and the technology such a leap forward that it has to be seen to be believed.

"You're going to have a much better picture in your own home compared to going to a movie theater," Richman said.

The new big screen is as thin as an iPhone and has sound that matches the better picture quality. Richman said the high-resolution sound system includes a tweeter, a mid-range and a sub-woofer to match the actual high resolution of the TV.

To get the most from these new TVs, which cost around $3,000, you must be watching content that is in ultra-high definition. And unfortunately, there is not television content in the format, nor is there a lot of 4K movies being streamed on the Internet. But more will be available soon, along with 4K discs, and ultra-high definition TVs and 4K cameras are already in stores.

The cost of ultra-high definition equipment is expected to drop, and in the words of Richman, "There is no going back."
