Rock star Nick Hexum taking part in Empire State Building Run-Up to benefit blood cancer research

Amy Freeze has the story of rock star Nick Hexum, who will take part in the Empire State Building Run-up.

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Rock star Nick Hexum of the band 311 is coming to New York City to take part in this week's 2016 Empire State Building Run-Up.

Athletes race up 86 flights of stairs in the annual event, which is in its 39th year.

He is asking fans around the world to support the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation and hopes to raise at least $10,000.

Nick's mother Patricia Hudson has the blood cancer disease for which there is currently no cure.
