Police have released a sketch of a man they are looking for in connection with an attempted sexual assault on a child as she slept in her Manhattan home.

The incident happened just after 11 p.m. on July 7 in the vicinity of East 108th Street and First Avenue in East Harlem.

Authorities say the 8-year-old girl was asleep inside her residence when she was awakened by an unidentified individual who attempted to sexually assault her. The suspect fled the location through a bedroom window and out a rear fire escape.

"It's just crazy that people are getting away with stuff like this, in our day and time, with all the police and where we live," area resident Edwin Rivera said. "We live in Manhattan of all places."

The girl was not injured.

"I'm going to pray for the little girl's family," area resident Twanda Martin said. "I'm just glad it didn't go any further than it could have went, and I just hope they catch whoever is behind this."

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his 20s with shoulder-length black hair and acne-like skin.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS or for Spanish 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
